This weekend in Middle Tennessee (August 7–9, 2026), the headliners are Vince Gill closing his Ryman Auditorium residency Friday and Saturday, a free outdoor screening of Zootopia 2 at Charlie Daniels Park in Mt. Juliet, and Cumberland University's Sondheim cabaret in Lebanon. Nineteen events span Wilson, Davidson, Rutherford, and Williamson counties, many of them free.
Friday night my kids will be on a blanket at Charlie Daniels Park watching Zootopia 2 on the big screen, and that's about as good as a free summer evening gets out here. If you'd rather stay indoors, the Capitol has Disney trivia and Monsters, Inc. on Saturday, and Cumberland's theatre department is putting on a Sondheim cabaret that weekend. Drive into Nashville and Vince Gill is closing out a six-night stand at the Ryman Friday and Saturday both.
Wilson County: Lebanon, Mt. Juliet & Watertown
Home turf, and it's a strong week for it a movie in the park, a Sondheim night at Cumberland, and Disney trivia at the Capitol.
Movie in the Park: Zootopia 2

Mt. Juliet's putting Zootopia 2 up on the big screen out at Charlie Daniels Park. The city calendar doesn't list a start time, so plan on dusk and get there early to stake out lawn space. Bring chairs, blankets, and bug spray the grass gets damp and the mosquitoes find you by the second act. It's free.
Brainiac Disney Trivia + Movie Night: Monsters, Inc.

The Capitol runs Disney trivia and then screens Monsters, Inc. Saturday at six. Fifteen dollars, right on the downtown square, and a solid way to get the family out of the heat for a few hours. Grab tickets ahead the Capitol's theme nights fill up.
A Sondheim Cabaret

Cumberland's theatre department is staging a Sondheim cabaret at the Heydel Fine Arts Center Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Company, the whole songbook. Saturday at seven or Sunday at two, twenty dollars general and five for students, with a cast of CU students and community folks. This is exactly the kind of thing people don't realize Lebanon has until they go.
Roughly half the folks I work with moved here from somewhere else, and almost all of them started by spending a weekend like this one a movie in the park, a show on the square and wondering what it'd take to stay. First Friday downtown, which means the square is the place to be an art crawl and free live music back to back.
